Father Figures.

In English, the term father figure suggests authority, safety, support. But when I hear it now, I think less of the figure—and more of its erosion. With time, we all become more human than symbol. Bodies once tied to strength begin to yield, and certainty fades into doubt.

Figures began with a simple gesture: I asked my father to stand before me and move. To twist, pose—sometimes awkward, sometimes funny, sometimes unsettling. It wasn’t a heroic portrait. It was a portrait of becoming. A man aging, losing strength, yet still himself.

Through the viewfinder, I saw someone different and deeply familiar. A man who once taught me how to tie my shoes, now tying together his memories. These images hold tenderness—not idealization, but truth.

Figures is a story about presence. About a body growing fragile but still meaningful. About a father turning from an authority into a companion. About love, no longer ideal, but real.
